New Stadium Set to Open in Summer 2026
Sherman ISD is moving forward with plans to build a new, multipurpose stadium at Sherman High School after working through cost and design considerations.
The Board of Trustees approved a guaranteed maximum price for construction of the stadium and related site improvements on Monday night.
The 8,000-seat stadium will be ready for student athletes, coaches and fans in summer 2026, three years sooner than the 2029 opening shared with voters prior to the 2023 bond election.
"This stadium will better meet the immediate and future needs of our growing athletics and fine arts programs as it becomes a great source of pride for our community," said Sherman ISD Superintendent Dr. Thomas O’Neal.
The general contractor for the stadium project will be CORE Construction. Work surrounding the existing athletic field at Sherman High School will begin this winter, with the goal of having the stadium completed by early summer 2026.
Athletics practices will continue to be held on site at Sherman High School. All competitions will be moved to Bearcat Stadium or other venues, except for baseball and softball, which will continue to play their games at SHS.
