Friday, February 2nd is National Go RED Day and our district will be going RED to support the mission of the American Heart Association – building healthier lives free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke. 

Throughout the school year, you will continue to see monthly emails on a variety of health topics.  Learn the simple ways you can make big changes with your health.

NOVEMBER

The holidays are right around the corner! 

Thanksgiving, you're up first.  How will you stay heart-healthy this holiday season?  Here are a few reminders:

healthy portions Fruits & Vegetables:  Half of the plate should be dedicated to fruits and vegetables. Try squash salad, green bean casserole, cauliflower mash, roasted asparagus and roasted butternut squash.

Starchy Foods:  About a quarter of the plate should be dedicated to starchy food like mashed potatoes, mashed sweet potatoes, stuffing and breads.  Instead of making traditional mashed potatoes, try mixing mashed cauliflower with the potatoes or use them as a stand-alone dish.

Add color to your diet

Lean Protein:  About a quarter of the plate should be dedicated to lean protein. Because a serving size of meat is 3 ounces, the cut of turkey should be about the size of a deck of cards.
