Sherman ISD Accepts Applications for New Community Education Program

Sherman ISD is excited to launch a new program called Ambassador Academy to help educate and empower citizens regarding public education and issues facing Sherman ISD.

The annual program will provide community members with a better understanding of the operations of the school district and create a foundation for active engagement and involvement in SISD.

Sherman ISD residents are invited to apply now through August 9 to join the inaugural class. The application is available by visiting

The idea for Ambassador Academy grew out of a discussion among members of the district improvement team during the 2023-24 school year.

“Sherman ISD is always looking for new ways to better inform parents and deepen our connections in the community,” said Amy Pesina, chief academic officer. “We want to encourage people to get involved, learn about the district and share that knowledge with others as ambassadors for Sherman ISD.”

Ambassador Academy is free and open to parents, community members, business, civic, and faith-based leaders, and others interested in gaining insight into SISD. Participants must live in Sherman ISD and be at least 18 years of age. SISD employees are not eligible to apply.

Participants will be provided with learning opportunities related to:

  • District governance, including the role of the School Board

  • School finance and management of district resources

  • Teaching, learning and student opportunities

  • School operations and support for students

  • Opportunities and challenges in Sherman ISD

  • Sherman’s growth and how it applies to the district

There will be a total of five, half-day classes during the 2024-25 school year. By the end of the program, ambassadors will be empowered to help educate the community about how public schools function, the unique needs of Sherman ISD and why our school district is a great place for students to learn and grow.

More details about the program can be found on the district website at
