Apply for Pre-K, Head Start and Early Head Start
Sherman ISD is still accepting applications for early childhood programs for the 2024-25 school year.
Three options are available depending on the child’s age and needs: Pre-Kindergarten, Head Start and Early Head Start.
All of the programs are designed to give children a great start in school and life. They are available for free to those residing in Sherman ISD who meet age and eligibility requirements. Eligibility requirements vary by program.
Pre-Kindergarten and Head Start are offered at Fred Douglass and Perrin early childhood centers, with transportation provided if the student lives more than two miles from the assigned campus.
Pre-K serves four-year olds, while Head Start serves both three- and four-year olds. Students in both programs receive high-quality instruction focused on language and literacy, social and emotional development, cognition and perceptual, motor and physical development. Head Start students also receive additional services provided by Region 10 such as family goal-setting, developmental screenings, medical, dental, and mental health support for children, and parent leadership and learning opportunities.
The Early Head Start program is a comprehensive, federal educational program for pregnant women, teen parents, and families with infants and toddlers, aged newborn to 34 months. It is offered by Region 10 at Jefferson Learning Center with transportation provided by the parent, or families can consider a more flexible program through Home-Based Early Childhood Education. The program also includes additional support services provided by Region 10.
To apply, families must first complete the online registration form. Families will also need to provide proof of eligibility to complete the application process.
