SHS Counseling Team Receives CREST Award For Second Year

The SHS Counseling TeamFor the second year in a row, Sherman High School has been named a recipient of Counselors Reinforcing Excellence for Students in Texas (CREST) Award by the Texas School Counselor Association. The award recognizes the efforts and hard work the counseling team has done to effectively communicate and ensure results at their campus.

"Sherman High School counselors are committed to serving our students and families and helping to guide the development of bright minds," said Lead Counselor MaryAnn Hill. “It is an honor to receive this award for a second year in a row, and it illustrates my team’s dedication to the community."

The SHS counseling team consists of Hill and counselors Bobby Storey, Patty Chavez, Kimberly Bower, Rachel Strait, Cheryl Evans and Amy Milner. The team will be recognized at the Texas School Counselor Association conference in San Antonio February 4-6.

CREST helps counselors to evaluate their counseling programs, promote their programs to stakeholders, demonstrate the effectiveness of their guidance and counseling programs through empirical means, and to implement the Texas and National models for school counseling programs.

CREST evaluates the counseling program in five categories:

  • Introduction to the School and the Role of the Professional School Counselor
  • Program Implementation Cycle
  • Foundational Components
  • Four Service Delivery Components
  • Program Curriculum

"The Sherman High School counseling team is energetic, goal-oriented and compassionate," said Aileen Hays, Sherman ISD coordinator of counseling and student services. "They serve as a model for other Texas school districts across Texas to emulate in their service to students."
