School Board Changes Oversight of SISD Fine Arts
On November 17, the Sherman ISD Board of Trustees met in a special meeting to discuss legal and procedural matters related to recent decisions concerning the theater program at Sherman High School. Earlier this week, the Board voted unanimously to reinstate the original script and cast of the musical at Sherman High School. Read more.
Following public comment and a closed session consultation with the district's legal counsel, the Board voted to direct the Board President to appoint a committee to engage a third party to investigate allegations of wrongdoing regarding the actions of district staff and administration.
Additionally, the Board voted to remove Superintendent Dr. Tyson Bennett from supervision of all fine arts until further notice from the Board. Effective immediately, Chief Academic Officer Amy Pesina was appointed to supervise fine arts in Sherman ISD.
Both items were approved by a unanimous vote of the Board.
