New Elementary to be Built on Donated Land

New Elementary School Location New Elementary School Location Sherman ISD will build its newest elementary school in northwest Sherman.

Covenant Development, a local real estate development company, is donating 22.55 acres of land in Heritage Ranch, a 440-acre mixed-use, master-planned community.

The new school, which will open for the start of the 2025-26 school year, will be built on the west side of Plainview Road north of Highway 82. The name of the campus will be determined by the district at a later date.

The grantor of the property is Heritage Ranch Land Holdings, LTD.

The new school will be built to serve more than 700 students in grades K-5.

“I want to thank Covenant Development for this extremely generous gift that will benefit Sherman ISD students, taxpayers, and the entire community for generations to come,” said Superintendent Dr. Tyson Bennett. “With this land, the district can position a school in the middle of a large and fast growing master-planned community that is shaping the future of Sherman.”

Heritage Ranch is planned to have more than 750 single-family homes when complete, along with a mix of commercial, retail, hospitality and office space as well as a proposed entertainment district.

“We are so excited to have a brand-new, innovative Sherman ISD elementary school located in the heart of our development,” said Ryan Johnson, president of Covenant Development. “Along with the parks, trails, and entertainment planned for Heritage Ranch, the convenience and proximity of a new school will be a draw and attractive amenity for families moving to or relocating in the Sherman area.”

Last summer, a group of Sherman ISD students, parents, community members, and staff met with architect VLK to help envision what the new school could look like. Design work and other planning for the school will continue in earnest now that the location has been finalized.

Construction of the new campus will be funded under the district’s 2023 bond program, approved by voters in May 2023.
