Arena Blake Named Sherman ISD's Director of Communications
Arena Blake, a public relations leader with more than 14 years of experience, has been named director of communications for Sherman ISD.
Blake joins Sherman ISD after serving as a communications specialist in Northwest ISD, where she earned national recognition for the district’s Facebook page and worked closely with campus administrators to streamline communication across 19 campuses. She recently won three Awards of Excellence from the National School Public Relations Association — the top national award that recognizes outstanding education publications and digital media.
As Sherman ISD’s director of communications, she will be responsible for district-level communication services, including print and electronic communications, media relations and special events.
“I am thrilled to join the Bearcat family and work alongside a team of leaders and educators who are dedicated to students and families,” said Blake. “My goal is to continue to provide open, consistent communication to our community and to showcase the amazing things happening in our schools.”
Blake isn’t a stranger to the Texoma education scene. She attended school in Bells, and her dad has served as a teacher and counselor in Howe.
In addition to her work in Northwest ISD, Blake has experience in digital marketing and as a journalist covering education. She is also the author of the best-selling cookbook, “Awesome Edible Kids Crafts: 75 Super-Fun All-Natural Projects for Kids to Make and Eat.” She has been an active volunteer and involved parent since her son started school, serving as PTA president and yearbook coordinator.
Superintendent Dr. David Hicks said that Blake will bring innovation, creativity, and expertise to the Sherman team.
“Arena is a proven leader in the school communications field,” said Hicks. “Her clear communication style, passion for making a difference for our parents and staff, and her dedication to excellence will serve our community well!”
Blake earned her bachelor’s degree in journalism from Texas A&M University and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in strategic communication and innovation from Texas Tech University. She and her husband, James, have been married 12 years. Their son, Andy, will be entering fourth grade this fall.
