Sherman ISD Names New Head Football Coach for Sherman High School
Sherman ISD is proud to announce Cory Cain as the new head coach of the Sherman High School football program. He will also serve as the district's assistant athletic director.
Coach Cain will take over the program with 20 years of coaching experience and a wealth of football knowledge. He recently served as the assistant head coach, defensive coordinator, and athletic-academic advisor at Allen High School in Allen, Texas. During his 15 year tenure at Allen High School, Cain had consistent success as a defensive coordinator, winning five 6A football state championships and eleven consecutive district championships.
Although he is incredibly proud of his on-field accomplishments, the success of the young men he has been able to coach is his most important achievement. A total of 195 players coached and mentored by Cain have signed scholarships to play football in college. Ten of those players have gone on to play professionally in the NFL. Cain is now excited to bring his experience and passion for student-athlete success to Sherman High School.
"I am honored to join Sherman ISD and the Sherman Bearcat football program. The rich football tradition in Sherman is fantastic, and I am excited about my role in educating, leading, and empowering the students of Sherman ISD," Cain said. "I am eager to meet the current, former, and future Bearcats and start working to make Sherman football the most admired program in the state of Texas."
Sherman ISD gathered feedback from parents, students, and community stakeholders for input on the characteristics an ideal candidate would need to succeed in the position. Based on that feedback, Sherman ISD Athletic Director Bob Jones believes that Cain is the right person for the job.
"The top three characteristics from the survey showed our community wanted a person who has the experience and proven ability to develop a winning program, understands Sherman football traditions, and has experience in engaging the community," Jones expressed. "Coach Cain has the proven experience of winning at the highest level in the toughest 6A division. In addition, he has done his research on the rich traditions of SHS football, and I believe Sherman is an ideal place for him to build on our success and take the program to the next level."
Before coaching at Allen High School, Cain coached at Red Oak High School, Kaufman High School, and Wichita Falls Hirschi High School. He is a 2001 graduate of Midwestern State University and 1995 graduate of Muenster High School. Coach Cain enjoys outdoor grilling and spending time with his family. He has been married to his wife, Stephanie, for 19 years. They have two sons Jackson and Jett.
