SISD Update 2.23.21

Dear Sherman ISD Parents,

After several days of inclement weather-related challenges within our community, our district will resume in-person learning on Wednesday, February 24, 2021. Our Sherman ISD maintenance, operations and custodial staff worked diligently through the harsh weather conditions to monitor and quickly respond to potential issues within our facilities. Due to their hard work, damages from the storm were limited and will be repaired without impacting our daily work. I would like to thank the City of Sherman team for providing bottled water and for working tirelessly to restore water pressure, and our parent and staff volunteers, donors, and the following community partners for supporting the two food distribution and cookout events that were held last weekend:

Tyson Foods
Sunny Delight
Douglass Distributing
Red River Title
Guild Mortgage
Vanya Mayes Certainty Home Loans
REMAX Signature Properties
The Salvation Army
Children's Express

Our community always provides support generously and compassionately when there is a crisis and last week was a prime example of what can be accomplished in a very short time when we work together.

As we prepare to welcome students back to school on Wednesday, we will do so with the following protocols in place, due to the ongoing boil water notice in Sherman:

  • All campus cafeterias will serve a limited variety of breakfast and lunch menu items.
  • All campuses will provide bottles of water for all students and staff. Students are encouraged to bring their own water if they already have some at home.
  • Hand sanitizing stations are located throughout all campuses, and our health and safety protocols remain in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

To continue fighting the spread of COVID-19, parents of in-person learners should still conduct daily health safety checks with their students before they arrive at school, and everyone should wear masks and practice social distancing. Distance learners will continue to follow their same school schedule.

We look forward to welcoming students back to campus on Wednesday and finishing the week Bearcat Strong!

Thank you,

David Hicks
Superintendent
