The Sherman ISD Board of Trustees approved the academic calendar for the 2021-2022 school year during the December board meeting. The new calendar addresses the most important needs of the district, which includes time for staff to participate in professional and staff development throughout the year while maintaining an end of the school year date prior to memorial day.
The Sherman ISD academic calendar is collaboratively developed each year by the District Calendar Committee. The committee includes District Improvement Committee members, PTA presidents, teachers and staff, parents, and community members.
“Our academic calendar process is one of the most critical pieces needed for planning within our district. As we manage all of our districts' transitions, the academic calendar development is essential as we prepare for the upcoming school year,” Assistant Superintendent Tamy Smalskas explained. “Through our process, we've been able to be intentional about building in time for our teachers and staff members' professional development while prioritizing the input our students, staff, and community provided through our annual calendar survey and committee meetings.”
The academic calendar reflects a start date that is comparable to the 2020-2021 school year and an end date before Memorial Day weekend. Additionally, Christmas break will return to the normal two weeks, Thanksgiving break will remain one week, and spring break week will align with local schools and area colleges.
