Sergio serves on the IT Services Team

For our IT Services Employee of the Week, we are recognizing Serio Lopez! Sergio has been working with the SISD IT Services team for four years. When asked what his goal was for today, Sergio stated “we are pre-configuring the network for our new bells and paging system so it is ready to go by day one of school. We are working on remote bells and paging servers and other related items.” To achieve this goal, Sergio and the IT Services team plan to get about five to six campuses done before lunch. Today they are working ahead of another team and side by side with vendors to accomplish this goal. Sergio and his team are going to each network closet, identifying where technology is going to be plugged in and pushing that configuration to where it is going to be plugged in on the campus. It takes a substantial amount of preparation work so that the vendor can come in behind Sergio and the other IT Services team members to make sure that everything is set up and ready for the campus. On an average day, Sergio comes into the office and makes sure that there are no issues that will affect any operations or student’s learning. From there Sergio shifts to a “multi-hat wearing” persona, meaning that he works on various tasks such as project management where he ensures that tasks are running on schedule and people are where they are supposed to be. There are several aspects of IT Services that go unnoticed, especially the work that they do during the summer. One thing that Sergio wants people to know about the work that the IT Services team does is that “there are a lot of things that go on after hours, at odd times of the night, over the weekend, and over the summer that a lot of people will never see. We are not the type of people that want awards or to be recognized for that, but when people are frustrated I would like them to know that we have been working for a really long time and really hard to make sure that the finished product is one that we are comfortable delivering to the teachers as well as the students. Even if it is not perfect yet, we are working really hard to improve and deliver the best product possible.” The work that Sergio and our IT Services team do for SISD enables our teachers and students to have access to the best technology.
