Parent Update: Holiday Break Return Information

We hope you had a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving holiday. We are excited to welcome our students and staff members back to school this coming week to finish our first semester.

Sherman ISD will resume in-person and distance learning on Monday, November 30, for all students. Students from Fred Douglass, Sory, Dillingham, and Sherman High School will remain online on Monday, November 30, and return to in-person classes on Tuesday, December 1, provided everyone is healthy enough to do so. On Monday morning, we will continue assessing the health of staff at each of the four campuses and confirm the return to in-person learning date by automated email and phone calls as soon as possible, no later than the end of the school day.

We thank the members of our Health Services and Human Resources Departments who worked diligently over the break, tracking positive COVID-19 cases reported to our district. The information reported shows that most of the cases reported resulted from close contact outside of school. As we prepare to return to school this week, we will continue implementing our health and safety guidelines. We will require everyone to wear a mask, social distance when feasible, wash your hands, and regularly use hand sanitizer. We are also reinforcing that if your student is currently showing symptoms of COVID-19, please report that information to us immediately and do not send your student to school. You may report COVID-19 positive cases to 903-718-8678 until this evening at 5 pm. Starting Monday, November 30, SISD will not regularly monitor the COVID-19 reporting phone line. Parents will need to report a positive case to their child's campus nurse. Thank you all in advance for your continued partnership in keeping our students and staff safe daily. You may click here to access your child's campus nurse direct line.

As we prepare to start school this coming week, please remember the following:

  • Continue to monitor your child for symptoms daily. If your child develops symptoms, we encourage you to keep your child home and notify your child's primary care doctor for instructions.
  • Please perform a daily health screening self-check before entering any Sherman ISD bus, campus, or building to ensure you are free of all COVID-19 symptoms. We would appreciate you reviewing the Operation Reconnect Plan for all the safety and entry criteria.
  • If you have any questions or concerns about your child's health, please contact your child's primary care doctor for instructions.

Sherman ISD will continue to monitor COVID-19 and staffing numbers within the district on a daily basis. As always, we appreciate your support, and we will continue to provide you with updated information as needed.
