Kinder Camp Kicks Off in Sherman ISD

Sherman ISD has welcomed several of its youngest learners to each of their elementary campuses this week to kick off the district’s inaugural Kinder Camp. More than 200 incoming kindergarteners are attending the free three-day camp to receive resources to help them transition to elementary school and prepare for the upcoming school year.

Kinder “Kinder Camp helps our students learn expectations, everyday procedures and routines. It gives them a chance to familiarize themselves with their new elementary school before the school year begins,” Sherman ISD Director of Elementary Education Dr. Gayle Smith explained. “The camp also allows our teachers to connect with their new students and foster new relationships with parents.”

During the camp, students are exploring their new campus, meeting their new teachers, and experiencing what kindergarten will be like once the school year starts. All week, students have participated in educational activities and parents have been provided with information about the upcoming school year.

To close out the camp, Sherman ISD will host a Kinder Camp Family Night at the Sherman ISD Administration building. The event will have fun activities, great food, and important parent information and kindergarten student resources.

“Kinder Camp Family Night gives us an opportunity to welcome our families and show them that they’ve got this big support system,” Smith said. “We are all in this together, and our primary goal is that their student will be successful in our school system and we’re going to do everything we can to make sure that happens.”

Bearcat Kinder Camp Family Night will be Thursday, August 1, starting at 6pm to 8pm. There will be food trucks, snow cones, bounce houses, music, and much more for the entire family to enjoy.
