Sherman ISD will continue to provide free meals to all students for the 2021-2022 school year.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) released nationwide waivers that allow Sherman ISD to provide free meals to all students, regardless of grade level or income status. This year the district will serve meals free of charge to all students beginning Wednesday, Aug. 18.
“After such a tough year, Sherman ISD is pleased to be able to offer this service to our families,” said Superintendent Dr. David Hicks. “So many families have encountered hardships due to the pandemic, so programs like this are more important now than ever before.”
Meals must meet the USDA requirements to be eligible for the program, meaning students must choose three items at breakfast and three items at lunch. Breakfast requires any three items we offer, but one item has to be fruit or juice. Lunch requires three items as well and can include grains, meat or meat alternative, fruits, vegetables, or milk. Unlimited fruits and vegetables are also available. Students who wish to purchase a la carte food items must have funds in their account to do so.
