Sherman ISD Promotes Aileen Hays to Coordinator of Counseling
Sherman ISD is pleased to announce the promotion of Aileen Hays to Coordinator of Counseling and Student Services. She will collaborate with campus nurses, coordinate health services, lead the counseling department, manage services for homeless students, and provide leadership with student attendance and mental health.
"I'm so excited to start this new role and look forward to supporting our amazing counselors, nurses, and programs in Sherman schools," said Hays. "I'm confident my experience in student support, mental health, and community collaboration will be beneficial to our students and families."
Hays has worked in SISD as the Student Support Counselor at Sherman High School and Piner Middle School for the past two years.
"Aileen brings a broad perspective within our student support needs for our students from individual and group therapy, family support to crisis intervention," Assistant Superintendent Dr. Tamy Smalskas said. "Mrs. Hays is respected within our counseling department, and will help lead our counselors, nurses in supporting our students."
Hays has more than 30 years of experience working with youth and families as a school counselor, school social worker, and school mental health counselor. She has also worked in community agencies such as Big Brothers Big Sisters and Communities in Schools.
She is licensed by the state of Texas as a Clinical Social Worker. Before coming to SISD, Hays had a private therapy practice outside Austin, Texas, specializing in children, adolescents, and families. She's a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin and received her Masters in Social Work from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
"She has tremendous experience with leading large projects and developing programs such as AVID to give students the best support they can to achieve," said Dr. Smalskas. We are happy to have Aileen on our district student services team."
