Sherman ISD is excited to announce longtime pastor and SISD volunteer Reid Kirk as the district’s first coordinator of character education. 

In this position, Kirk will oversee learning activities and experiences designed to help students fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. He will also support a districtwide community mentoring program and oversee a parenting education outreach for families in need of support, encouragement, and accountability.  

An SISD volunteer and resident of Sherman since 2011, Kirk most recently served as executive pastor at Fairview Baptist Church. He brings a total of 23 years of experience working with young people at five different churches. 

Kirk has also volunteered as the Sherman High School football team chaplain since 2017. That role led to the opportunity for him to deliver character development curriculum to student-athletes at the high school and middle school on a weekly basis. For his passion and service to students, Kirk was recognized as the Sherman ISD Volunteer of the Month for January 2023. 

“My time interacting with students has become a great joy of my life,” Kirk said. “I have had the opportunity to speak to hundreds of student-athletes about character, integrity, and responsibility. I have developed relationships with young men and women that have far exceeded their time in middle school and high school. I look forward to offering my support to students who are active with other interests and activities in our schools as well.”

Kirk will be responsible for coordinating with campuses to ensure that the district’s character education programming is specific to Sherman, aligned with district goals and values, and consistently implemented throughout the district. These lessons will be designed to help students analyze and improve their behavior choices, study methods, and habits.

“Mr. Kirk understands the needs of our students, district, and community, and he is invested in our shared success,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Tyson Bennett. “I am thrilled to have him join our team to help guide students as they grow and develop as Sherman Bearcats.”

Kirk received his Bachelor’s degree from Blue Mountain College in 2004 and his Master’s degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 2007.

His wife Amber is a third grade teacher at Neblett Elementary. Their son Aiden is a seventh grader at Sherman Middle School and their daughter Adalyn is a third grader at Neblett. 

In his spare time, Reid loves spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, and watching sports.
