The Sherman ISD Board of Trustees finalized the 2023-2024 academic calendar at their regular meeting in February. View the approved calendar.
The administration recommended changes to the initial draft calendar after more than 350 staff, parents and community members completed a survey sharing their input. The revised calendar approved by the Board includes a later school start date than the initial draft, an additional exchange day for staff, and improved balance of Monday and Friday professional development days.
The new teacher institute is set for Tuesday, August 1, and Wednesday, August 2. All staff return Thursday, August 3. The first day of school is on Monday, August 14.
Thanksgiving break is set for November 20-24 with all staff and students returning Monday, November 27.
Christmas break begins on Friday, December 22. Staff will return on Monday, January 8, and students return Tuesday, January 9.
Spring break is March 11-15, and Good Friday is March 29. There is a staff exchange day and student holiday the following Monday, April 1.
The last day of school is Thursday, May 23. Graduation is the following day, Friday, May 24.
There will be a total of 170 instructional days: 84 in the first semester and 86 in the second semester. Two “banked days” are included for inclement weather, and April 12 will serve as an additional bad weather make-up day if needed.
