Scott Johnston Named Sherman Middle School Principal

Sherman ISD announced June 9 that a familiar face will take the helm of Sherman Middle School. Scott Johnston, who is entering his 23rd year in education, has been named principal of Sherman Middle School. Johnston spent the last two years as the principal of S&S High School. Prior to his time at S&S, Johnston served in Sherman ISD as an assistant principal at Sherman High School for two years, and assistant principal for the DAEP, Perrin Learning Center, Bootcamp and JDC for two years.

“Scott is an experienced principal with a heart to serve and lead our students and staff at Sherman Middle School,” said Dr. Tyson Bennett, superintendent. “He has all the qualities identified in our leadership profile that was recently built from surveying staff and I can’t wait to see the amazing things he does for our SMS Bearcats.”
Johnston is dedicated to relationship building, character development, and academic excellence. He has been a campus leader at all levels from elementary to high school and alternative schools. He also has experience across a diverse array of campuses and communities, including Lancaster High School, Grand Prairie High School, Dowell Middle School in McKinney ISD, and Joe K. Bryant Elementary School in Anna.
“I am excited about returning to Sherman ISD!” Johnston said. “I built some great relationships in Sherman with staff, parents, and students, and I look forward to working with them again. There is a lot of growth and opportunities in Sherman, and I am honored to join the team at Sherman Middle School. I relish the opportunity to instill honor, integrity, and a hard work ethic into the next generation of leaders in our Sherman community.”
Johnston earned his master’s degree in education administration from Lamar University and his bachelor’s degree from the University of North Texas. He lives in Sherman with his wife, Karis, and four children: Kaidyn, age 17, Sterrett, age 16, Jace, age 13, and Bryn, age 12.
