Sherman High School Percussion Wins Top Award in Drumline Competition
The Sherman High School Band’s percussion section won first place in their classification at the 30th Annual Plano Drumline Competition on Saturday, Sept. 25 at Clark Stadium in Plano.
The group competed in the AA Division II contest, winning Best Snare Line, Best Tenor Line and Best Bass Line in addition to their top honors.
More than 20 other schools participated in the event, which is the only fall contest where percussion students compete without the rest of the band. The SHS percussion section has 13 students in the drumline, or battery, and 16 students in the pit.
Ryan Jenkins, director of bands, said that these awards represent the drumline's commitment to excellence that has permeated this outstanding group of students for decades.
“The Sherman percussion students are known throughout the state of Texas and across the country as one of the most decorated and highly motivated groups in the activity,” he said. “We are so proud of their accomplishments as they continue to represent everything that is right and admirable about our young people in Sherman ISD and the community of Sherman as well!”
The SHS Band’s first UIL competition of the season — the Region 25 Marching Contest — will take place Saturday, Oct. 16.
