Sherman ISD Welcomes New Student Nutrition Director

Robert RushingSherman ISD is pleased to introduce Robert Rushing, an experienced supervisor of school-based meal programs, as the new director of student nutrition for the district.

Rushing is employed by Aramark, SISD’s food service provider, and comes to Sherman ISD after seven years in New Braunfels ISD and Pflugerville ISD.

The Sherman ISD Student Nutrition Department is dedicated to providing quality meals to students, staff, and visitors, and supporting learning by promoting healthy habits for lifelong nutrition and fitness practices.

As director, Robert will lead 76 cooks, cashiers, servers, cafeteria managers and office support staff in the student nutrition department. They serve about 10,000 meals every school day, including breakfast, lunch and a-la-carte items. That equates to 1.7 million meals every school year!

“Providing healthy and delicious meal options to children is so important to student achievement and ensuring students are ready to learn,” Rushing said. “I’m thrilled to join a strong team that puts students at the forefront of everything they do.”

Rushing grew up in Houston and started his food service career as a busboy at a restaurant when he was 16. He graduated from The University of Houston in 2014 with a degree in Hotel Restaurant Management.

After college, Robert started with Aramark as an intern at a hospital in Louisiana, and then went to work in Pflugerville ISD as a supervisor. He received a promotion to assistant director at New Braunfels ISD and also supported other school districts across Central Texas.

Rushing is a big Green Bay Packers fan and enjoys hiking and being on the water.
