Girls Basketball Welcomes New Head Coach
Sherman ISD is excited to announce Carl Williams, a successful basketball coach with a proven track record of winning championships, as the next head girls basketball coach at Sherman High School.
Williams spent 2015-2018 as the head freshman girls basketball coach at Ellison High School, a 5A school in Killeen ISD, and had a combined record of 76-9 over three seasons. The Eagles went undefeated in 2017 and were back-to-back district champions in 2016 and 2017.
Since 2018, Williams has served as 1st Assistant Coach for Ellison’s varsity girls basketball team. This has involved managing the varsity, JV, and two freshman teams, and developing student-athletes through training and character development. This season, he helped lead the Lady Eagles to a 20-7 season and a district championship.
“Coach Williams brings a wealth of knowledge to our Ladycat basketball program and is a strong role model to build character in our student-athletes,” said Sherman ISD Athletic Director Jeff Cordell. “We are extremely blessed to have him join our Bearcat family.”
Williams was born in Galveston and graduated high school in West Columbia, Texas. He served 22 years in the Army, including two combat tours, and retired as an Army Captain in 2014.
“I’m thrilled to lead a talented program and be part of this growing community of Sherman,” Williams said. “My goal is to focus on energy and discipline and to build on last year's success. I plan to show up, work hard, and lead a team that the Sherman community will be proud of.”
Williams earned his bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University - Central Texas in 2012. He earned his masters of arts in teaching from Louisiana College in 2015.
He and his wife, Tiffany, have two children, Devyn (27) and Carmen (25).
