Sherman ISD Welcomes New CTE Coordinator
Sherman ISD is excited to introduce Elizabeth Clayton, an
experienced career and technical education (CTE) teacher and administrator, as the new coordinator of career and military workforce development at Sherman High School.
Clayton brings 13 years of experience as a teacher and administrator in Birdville, Lake Worth, and Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISDs, including seven years overseeing CTE programs. She most recently served in a similar role as the coordinator for career & technology education in Birdville ISD.
Clayton is also a licensed attorney, having practiced criminal defense, family law, and civil litigation in the state of Texas since 1998. As a teacher, she taught courses in law, public safety, courts, and law enforcement.
“Elizabeth has extensive knowledge and experience regarding CTE courses and programs and is the right person to continue to grow the opportunities available to our students,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Tyson Bennett. “Sherman has become a hub for manufacturing and industry, and we are committed to working with industry partners to prepare students for the workforce and other college, career, and military opportunities in Sherman and beyond.”
Clayton received her bachelor of arts degree in English from The University of Texas at Austin and her law doctorate from the Texas Wesleyan University School of Law. She also holds certifications in English, language arts, and reading, trades and industrial education, and education administration.
“I’m thrilled to join the Sherman ISD team,” Clayton said. “CTE is vital and invaluable to prepare our students for the future, and I’m excited to lead the amazing program already established at Sherman High School.”
Her husband of 24 years, Art, graduated from Austin College in 1995. Since they began dating, they have visited Sherman many times for "Roo" homecomings and athletic events. She says joining the Sherman community feels like coming home. Art is a prosecutor for the Grayson County District Attorney’s office. The Claytons have two children, Lily Kate, 23, a recent Austin College graduate, and Arthur, 19, a student at Morehead State University.
