Sherman Alum Returns as Head Baseball Coach

Sherman ISD is excited to announce Alan McDougal, an accomplished head baseball coach with Sherman roots, as the next head baseball coach at Sherman High School. Alan McDougal

He spent the last 18 years as the head baseball coach at Colleyville Heritage High School, and led the Panthers to win the 5A State Championship in 2019. 

Before his time at Colleyville Heritage, he served as head coach for Commerce High School, and as assistant coach at Fort Worth Arlington Heights and Boswell high schools. McDougal also has experience with assistant coaching in football and golf.

He has been coaching for 27 years and has 422 wins as a head coach. McDougal plans to use his positive experiences and accomplishments as a culture-driven coach to keep pushing the Bearcat baseball program forward.

“We are extremely excited about Coach McDougal coming back home to lead our Baseball program,” said Sherman ISD Athletic Director Jeff Cordell. “Coach McDougal exceeds all our expectations as a head coach and brings with him a tremendous amount of success in leading baseball programs. We can’t wait to see what he will do for our Bearcat baseball team.”

A proud Sherman native, McDougal was an All-District baseball player for two years at Sherman High School. He was elected team captain for two years, and graduated Salutatorian of his class in 1992. 

“I can’t begin to express the happiness I feel each time I drive into Sherman,” McDougal said. “I was born at Wilson N. Jones. I went to school at Fairview, Dillingham, Piner, and SHS. I played baseball at Veterans Field, and I spent a ton of Friday nights at Bearcat Stadium. I am, and will always be, a Bearcat.”

McDougal earned his bachelor’s degree from Baylor University in 1996, where he was a member of the baseball team for two years. He earned his Masters of Education from University of Texas Arlington in 2013. 

His father, Dr. Michael McDougal, served in several positions in Sherman ISD, including Superintendent of Schools from 1988 to 1993. His mother, Linda Kay McDougal, was a teacher at Crutchfield Elementary. His brother, Cary McDougal, served on the Sherman ISD Board of Trustees from 1998 to 2003. Coach McDougal is the proud father of two sons: Jaxon, 14; and Maxwell, 7.
