Longtime Former Dyslexia Coordinator Returns to SISD
Sherman ISD is pleased to announce that Kerry Bedgood will return to Sherman as the district’s coordinator of 504, dyslexia, and intervention services.
Bedgood is a longtime former SISD dyslexia program coordinator and dyslexia teacher at Fairview Elementary, having served Sherman students and educators from 1997 to 2020. She most recently worked as coordinator for intervention services in Anna ISD.
In all, she brings nearly 30 years of experience in public education and extensive knowledge regarding reading acquisition, academic interventions, and programs and services that support students with a wide range of learning and life circumstances.
“Kerry is extremely well qualified and knowledgeable about how to appropriately evaluate, identify, and serve students with a variety of needs and challenges,” said Sherman ISD Superintendent Dr. Tyson Bennett. “She knows what it means to be a Sherman Bearcat and has a real heart for our students and community. We couldn’t be more thrilled to have her coming back home to Sherman.”
As coordinator of 504, dyslexia, and intervention services, Bedgood will develop and implement procedures to identify and monitor at-risk students at all grade levels and ensure that the resources are in place to support student success.
This includes overseeing programs for students who have dyslexia, cannot attend school due to medical reasons, or who are eligible for services under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 due to physical or mental impairments. In addition, she will help coordinate academic and behavioral supports at the campuses to help all students be successful.
“It is an honor to be able to come back home to Sherman,” Bedgood said. “I am committed to collaborating with campus and district staff with one goal - to do what is best for Sherman students and families.”
Bedgood earned her bachelor’s degree in education and English from Baylor University. She holds a master’s degree in reading from The University of Texas at San Antonio. She is also a Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT).
She and her husband Joel live in Sherman and are members of Legacy Bible Church. Joel and his parents, David and Donna Bedgood, own and operate Waldo Funeral Home. They have two sons, David, who is a 2017 graduate of Sherman High School, and Ethan, who is a 2020 SHS graduate. David played baseball at Tulane University, where he graduated in 2021, and is now entering his last year of law school at Texas Tech University. Ethan plays baseball at The University of Texas at Tyler, where he will be a senior this fall.
