Amy Pesina
Chief Academic Officer
Sherman ISD
Sherman ISD is excited to announce longtime SISD educator and campus administrator Amy Pesina as the district’s new Chief Academic Officer.
Pesina is a proud Sherman High School alumnus and has served the students, staff, and families of Sherman ISD as an employee for the past 20 years.
She currently serves as principal of Piner Middle School, a position she has held for the last three years. She brings 10 total years of experience as a Sherman ISD campus principal, having previously led Washington Elementary School and Dillingham Intermediate School. She has also served Sherman ISD as a first grade teacher, dyslexia therapist, and assistant principal.
“Mrs. Pesina has led campuses from elementary to secondary and has an exceptional grasp of curriculum and instruction,” said Sherman ISD Superintendent of Schools Dr. Tyson Bennett. “She’s also had success at both levels and understands the importance of supporting our teachers, administrators, and support staff.”
Pesina will finish the school year at Piner Middle School and transition into her new role over the summer.
As Chief Academic Officer, she will ensure that the development and delivery of curriculum and instructional programs are effective and efficient, incorporate district goals, and support student achievement. This includes utilizing input from teachers and principals, applied research, and student data to determine effectiveness and improve outcomes.
“The success of our teachers and parents, to grow student success, is my focus,” Pesina said. “I look forward to working with our outstanding team to collaborate, problem-solve, and generate a system of continuous improvement for parent support, teaching, and learning.”
Pesina received her Bachelor of Science from University of North Texas in 2003, her Master of Science in Educational Administration from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in 2009, and her advanced Superintendent certificate from Lamar University in 2019.
Pesina resides in Sherman with her husband Ramiro, who works as the Global Environmental, Safety and Health (ES&H) Director for Emerson, and four children, Hayden, 21; Adleigh, 15; Ava, 11; and Avery, 7. She has a strong personal vested interest in our community education with her children currently attending Sherman High School, Piner Middle School, St. Mary’s, and Austin College.
