Sherman ISD is excited to announce longtime educator and campus administrator Scott Johnston as the next principal of Sherman High School. Johnston will move to the high school from Sherman Middle School, where he has served as principal for the past year.

Prior to SMS, Johnston spent two years as the principal of S&S High School, and before that he served as an assistant principal at Sherman High School for two years, and assistant principal for the district’s alternative high school programs for two years.

“I’m excited about the opportunity for Mr. Johnston to return to SHS as our new high school principal and build rewarding relationships with our staff, students, parents, and Sherman community,” said Sherman ISD Superintendent of Schools Dr. Tyson Bennett. “He has experience at all levels, including at Sherman High School, which set him apart as an amazing candidate for this position.”

Johnston brings a total of 24 years of experience in education. He has served a diverse array of campuses and communities, including Lancaster High School, Grand Prairie High School, Dowell Middle School in McKinney ISD, and Joe K. Bryant Elementary School in Anna.

Johnston will finish the school year at Sherman Middle School and transition to Sherman High School to start the 2023-24 school year.

“I am extremely honored and humbled to join the team at Sherman High School,” Johnston said. “I have great memories from my previous four years at the high school and alternative campuses in Sherman ISD, and I look forward to making many more.

“I will miss the great people and students at Sherman Middle School, and am so grateful for our time together. I am excited that I will already know so many of the incoming students and families at the high school over the next few years.”

Johnston earned his master’s degree in education administration from Lamar University and his bachelor’s degree from the University of North Texas. He lives in Sherman with his wife, Karis, and four children: Kaidyn, age 18, Sterrett, age 16, Jace, age 14, and Bryn, age 13.
