All but two were new FCCLA members when the group attended the Region 3 Leadership Conference two weeks ago, and four ended up walking away with top awards and a spot at the State Conference in April.
“This is great for FCCLA to grow and for new students to have the experience of competing,” FCCLA Advisor Amy Fonseca said.
Za’Nya Locure placed third in the Mystery Basket, which Fonseca compared to the Food Network show “Chopped.” Contestants create a single plate with a serving of protein, starch and vegetables within an allotted time and with a certain list of ingredients. They are judged on their use of tools, technique, creativity and sanitation.
Autumn Roberts and Addison Ellis placed third as a team in Sports Nutrition. They developed a nutrition and hydration plan based upon the needs of a student athlete.
Lanie Fajerson placed fifth in the Job Interview event. Fajerson had to develop a portfolio and participate in an interview, and she was judged on her communication skills and job knowledge.
The FCCLA State Conference will be held in Dallas on April 7-9.
