The International Dyslexia Association offers excellent information for parents and teachers regarding dyslexia, dysgraphia, ADHD, spelling, English language learners, and the latest brain research.

Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children offers free dyslexia testing for children ages 5-14. They usually have a waiting list of around 6 months. They also offer free classes on site for students local to the Dallas area. The SISD dyslexia team attended two years of intensive training in the Take Flight program at the hospital.

Dr. Shaywitz wrote a parent-friendly book called "Overcoming Dyslexia". It is the gold standard in dyslexia circles for information on assessing and treating dyslexia. Her website has many articles regarding dyslexia characteristics and treatment. She and her husband conducted brain research on dyslexia using functional MRIs and found that treatment with a dyslexia program improved the functioning of the brain.

Learning Ally (formerly Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic) is a nonprofit organization which offers free audiobooks for people with learning disabilities or vision problems. Students must have a documented disability in order to qualify as a member. Sherman ISD has a site license which enables us to add our dyslexic students to the membership. They offer textbooks as well as library books and can be used all the way through college. The audiobooks can be accessed via computer using their free software or by downloading the free app for smartphones and tablets.
