Sherman ISD Celebrates Opening of New Stadium

History was made on Sept. 18 as the Tommy Hudspeth Athletic Complex hosted its first varsity football game against The Colony in the newly completed stadium.

Bearcat fans enjoyed a thrilling game that came down to the very last moments, but The Colony squeaked by the Bearcats, 28-20.

The new five-story, 8,000-seat multipurpose stadium features improved accessibility and security, additional parking, a modern press box and video board at its south end.

Community Open House

Bearcat fans explored the stadium during a community open house and ribbon cutting on Sept. 12, and the press box was open for self-guided tours of the community room, video operations room and film deck.

The ribbon cutting featured mascots Billy Bob and Billy Jean Bearcat as well as several district and community leaders, and a pep rally gave attendees a taste of game-time atmosphere. After the pep rally, fans were welcomed onto the field for student-led activities from field goal kicks to Color Guard flag spins.
