SISD Welcomes New Principal of Sherman Middle School
Dr. Max Smith

Sherman ISD is excited to welcome Max Smith, an experienced educator, campus administrator and coach, as the new principal of Sherman Middle School.

Dr. Smith brings 15 years of experience as an assistant or associate principal at the middle and high school levels, most recently serving for six years as a campus administrator at Reedy High School in Frisco.

He also worked as an associate principal and testing coordinator at middle and junior high schools in Crowley and Arlington ISDs, where he led strategies to improve instruction, enhance learning outcomes and address student discipline.

Dr. Smith has been working as an adjunct professor at Austin College in Sherman, where he has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in education and helped mentor and prepare new teachers to complete certification programs.

He says he is excited about the opportunity to serve the Sherman community and is eager to return to a middle school campus.

“Middle school has always been my love and heart,” Dr. Smith said. “It is a unique time to build relationships and help students grow and prepare for high school and their lives beyond.

“I look forward to involving all stakeholders as we celebrate students and work together to help every child achieve at a high level."

Dr. Smith began his career in education in 2005 as a teacher and coach in Duncanville and Arlington ISDs, where he was recognized for leading the highest number of student-athletes to earn Division I and Division II scholarships to continue their education while playing college sports.

He himself played NCAA college football at Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, MO, where he earned his bachelor’s degree prior spending time on the practice squad with the Kansas City Chiefs. Dr. Smith also holds a master of business administration degree from University of Phoenix and doctorate in educational leadership from Liberty University.

Dr. Smith and his wife Amanda have been married for more than 20 years. They have three children: Breanna, Emersyn and Hunter.
