Sherman ISD Police Chief Earns Leadership Command Certificate

Chief Heath Wester of the Sherman ISD Police Department recently graduated from the Leadership Command College – Class 101 of the Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas (LEMIT).
The program, taught by a group of universities across the state of Texas, provides law enforcement administrators and executives with necessary skills to effectively manage police agencies and deliver a high level of service to their communities.
“Graduating from the LEMIT Leadership Command College is a milestone that represents not just the completion of a rigorous leadership journey, but also a deep, personal and professional commitment to excellence in law enforcement,” Wester said. “This experience has broadened my perspective on organizational leadership, strategic planning, and ethical decision-making tools that are essential for building trust and effectiveness within a school-based police department.”
Consisting of three 3-week modules, the program is taught by top national and international law enforcement experts. Module I taught leadership by the Center for Executive Development at Texas A&M University. Module II at Texas Woman’s University focused on the political, legal, and social environment of law enforcement. Module III included training in law enforcement administration at Sam Houston State University. Each lesson explored topics like leadership, professional ethics and integrity, communication, and personnel management.
“As Chief of Police for Sherman ISD, this achievement strengthens my ability to lead with vision, accountability, and compassion,” Wester said. “It equips me to better serve our students, staff, and community by fostering a safe, inclusive and responsive environment. I’m grateful for the opportunity to bring this advanced leadership training back to our district to enhance the service we provide every day.”
The Bill Blackwood Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas has been training law enforcement leaders since 1987. It offers various seminars and training along with the leadership program, which is regarded as one of the premiere law enforcement academies in the nation.
