SHS Updates Traffic Flow for Daily Arrival and Dismissal

Safety is the driving factor behind new traffic patterns that will take effect at Sherman High School this school year.

The changes are designed to reduce congestion, eliminate conflicting traffic movements and keep emergency access routes clear while creating a more orderly flow of vehicles around campus. 

Although some drivers will need to follow new routes or turn restrictions, the updated traffic plan prioritizes the safety of students, families and staff during the busiest times of the day. It will be in effect from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, when school is in session. 

The updated traffic map includes designated entry and exit points, one-way traffic in certain areas and restricted turning movements to improve traffic flow, enhance pedestrian safety and ensure emergency vehicles can always access the campus when needed.

Among the highlights:

FAMILIES & VISITORS

• Families dropping off or picking up their students must enter drop-off and pick-up lanes from W Travis Street, coming from either the east or west.
• Families will exit campus onto Interurban Parkway, with the ability to make either a left or right-hand turn. 
• Families should enter and proceed through the pick-up and drop-off lanes based on the direction they want to turn onto Interurban Parkway (proceeding either north or south).
• The drive loop in front of Sherman High School will transition to permanent one-way traffic, with the entrance on Interurban Parkway and exit on W Travis Street.
• Parents who are signing their students in or out during the school day must park in the front parking lot, entering from Interurban Parkway.

STUDENTS & STAFF

• Students must enter campus using the designated entrance at the guard shack at Interurban Parkway. This is a one-way entrance only. 
• Staff parking in the north or west parking lots must enter campus using the designated entrance at the guard shack at Interurban Parkway. Staff parking in the front parking lot must enter at Interurban Parkway, following one-way traffic. 
• Students and staff will exit the north and west parking lots using designated exits, following a set path that allows them to either exit to Steeplechase Drive, W Travis Street or Interurban Parkway.
