The Sherman Education Foundation (SEF) broke records again this year through its Circle of Success Recognition Event by providing more than $135,000 through 102 projects to enhance learning opportunities in Sherman ISD.

“This continued commitment is proof that the Sherman community is deeply invested in their local schools,” said Kathy Bickerstaff, executive director of SEF. “Through their contributions, our Bearcats have more opportunities to grow not only as students, but as leaders.”

Grant recipients were revealed in late March as SEF volunteers traveled campus to campus to surprise the selected teachers. These grants cover costs for enriching educational experiences, like field trips, and innovative classroom projects that would not otherwise be funded by the school district. Grants are provided through community sponsorships given through the Circle of Success Recognition Event, which marked its 25th anniversary on April 3.

Full List

“The Circle of Success has awarded countless educators who have inspired students to reach their full potential,” said Edwin Clark, SEF President. “These projects leave lasting memories that stay with our students for a lifetime.”

This year’s grants include upgraded media equipment at Piner and Sherman middle schools and a new book vending machine at Neblett Elementary to promote literacy and positive behavior. Science, technology, engineering, art and math projects and class materials are also being awarded across SISD elementary schools.

“SEF is committed to supporting our students and educators through enriching educational experiences that strengthen learning,” said Luke Motley, Past-President of SEF. “The Sherman community is what makes these unique opportunities possible.”

The event also recognized seven outstanding Sherman High School seniors selected based on their character, service and leadership. Teachers first nominated students, and then finalists were selected by SEF Board members who are not parents of SHS students. Those seven students in turn honored SISD educators who played a major role in their education and character development.

The 2025 student honorees and their educators stand with a large prop check reading $136,067.

Those seven students and their honored educators are:

  • Weston Cain, senior, and SHS teacher and coach Rodney Pilcher
  • Peyton Cottingham, senior, and SHS teacher and coach Caitlin Curry
  • Wesley Patterson, senior, and SHS teacher and percussion director Logan Stinson
  • Keyla Ramirez, senior, and SHS teacher Brenda Bennett
  • London Wecker, senior, and SHS teacher and coach Jessica Dunlap
  • Jacey Wiggains, senior, and SHS teacher and band director Ryan Jenkins
  • Ella Woody, senior, and SHS counselor Mary Ann Hill
