Sherman High School to Expand Robotics Program

Sherman High School students will have even more opportunities to prepare for future careers in the local advanced manufacturing and semiconductor industry, thanks to a donation from the Sherman Economic Development Corporation (SEDCO).
The donation of more than $54,000 will be used to purchase new equipment and technology to support the Electronic Engineering Technology (EET) and Robotics lab at SHS. Specifically, the school will buy an automated universal robot that students will learn how to program, taking the lab and learning for students to the next level.
“The robot will extend our EET lab into the next phase of automation, creating new opportunities for students to train on equipment similar to what they might experience in the local workforce,” said Elizabeth Clayton, coordinator of career, military and workforce development at Sherman High School.
This real-world experience will allow students to earn a new industry-based certification in robotics, in addition to the Electronic Engineering Technology Level 1 Certificate already offered at Sherman High School. These credentials represent industry-valued skills that will make students competitive in the job market and can help them secure a job after graduation.
“As we see an acceleration of advanced automation and AI quickly being adopted by our local advanced manufacturing and semiconductor industries in Sherman, SEDCO is happy to partner with SISD to enable students to have access and training in areas where they can learn real-world applications and seek higher paying jobs,” said Kent Sharp, President/CEO of SEDCO.
SEDCO helped to establish the EET lab at Sherman High School in 2023. Workforce Solutions Texoma received a $150,000 High Demand Job Training (HDJT) grant from the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC), which was matched dollar for dollar by SEDCO, for a total donation of $300,000 to Sherman ISD at the time.
