Board Receives Housing and Enrollment Update
Proposed attendance zones for the 2025-26 school year are now available for review and feedback.
The draft zones accommodate the opening of three new elementary school buildings in August, as well as anticipate the future opening of another new Sherman ISD elementary school in South Sherman and planned conversion of Dillingham Elementary into the district’s third middle school. A middle school boundary adjustment is also being proposed to align with the elementary zone changes.

Proposed Middle School Attendance Zones
The attendance zones will not be final until approved by the Sherman ISD Board of Trustees and may still change. Consideration of the proposed zones will occur at a future meeting. Once approved, the new attendance zones will go into effect for the 2025-26 school year.
A feedback form is available to submit comments and questions regarding the proposed zones. Answers to Frequently Asked Questions have been posted on the district website, and additional questions will be added over time.
Sherman ISD works with outside demographers to monitor housing and enrollment trends and receives updated enrollment projections annually. This analysis was used to develop the proposed attendance zones, which account for current and anticipated enrollment growth.
The draft zones also help balance enrollment in existing schools, increase operational efficiency and account for the following:
- The opening of a new, replacement campus for Crutchfield Elementary in August 2025 - the larger campus can accommodate up to approximately 700 students
- The opening of a new, replacement campus for Fairview Elementary in August 2025 - the larger campus can accommodate up to approximately 700 students
- The opening of a brand-new elementary at the northwest corner of Heritage Ranch Trail and Plainview Road in August 2025 - the campus can accommodate up to approximately 700 students
- The closure of Wakefield Elementary in May 2025 - the existing school will be demolished and a new early childhood center will be built on the property, bringing SISD’s Pre-K and Head Start programs together in one location
- The future opening of a second new elementary school in South Sherman at a location still to be determined. The proposed zones anticipate that school and reduce the number of future zoning changes that would be needed to accommodate it.
- The eventual planned conversion of Dillingham Elementary into the district’s third middle school. Sherman ISD never intended Dillingham and Neblett Elementary to serve as two side-by-side elementary schools; this was a solution implemented following the failure of a bond election in 2017 when additional space was needed to serve the district’s elementary students.
- The desire to maintain consistency between elementary and middle school boundary lines. The proposed middle school attendance zones will allow elementary students to stay with their classmates when moving on to middle school.
Any student who lives more than two miles from their assigned SISD campus qualifies for bus transportation to and from school.
The School Board heard a housing and enrollment update from external demographer Zonda Education during their regular Board meeting on March 24.
