SISD to Participate in North Texas District Mental Health Initiative
Sherman ISD is excited to announce its participation in a two-year, fully supported program designed to enhance student safety and emotional well-being.
The North Texas District Mental Health Initiative provides customized, strategic school mental health support and consultation through a partnership with the Region 10 Education Service Center, The Jed Foundation (JED) and AASA, The School Superintendents Association.
By connecting school districts with national expertise and technical assistance, the program aims to help districts foster thriving, positive school communities and better support students experiencing mental, emotional, behavioral or developmental challenges.
As a scholarship recipient, Sherman ISD will receive a comprehensive evaluation of student needs and existing processes to identify opportunities to strengthen school mental health systems and help prevent suicide. This analysis will include participation in student and staff surveys.
Staff will also collaborate with other districts and have access to Texas-specific training resources aimed at increasing support for all Pre-K to 12th grade students.
“This is a great opportunity for us to receive free, outside feedback regarding our current practices,” said Aileen Hays, coordinator of counseling and student support. “We are eager to identify new ways to promote mental health and enhance support for students who are struggling.”
