New Online Option Available for Submitting Absence Documents
A new option is available in the 2026-27 school year for parents and guardians to return documents related to their child’s absence from a Sherman ISD school.
An online form for submitting parent and doctor’s notes can be found on each campus website under the ‘About’ tab or by visiting www.shermanisd.net/absence-note. The form is easy to submit from a mobile device or desktop computer, with the ability to upload a wide variety of document files. It can be translated into multiple languages through a selection tool located on the bottom right-hand corner.
The form and any required documentation must be submitted within three school days of your child's return to school. The three-day period begins with the day the student returns to school.
Parent and doctor's notes can be used to excuse certain types of absences in Sherman ISD, such as those due to illness, a healthcare appointment, funeral of an immediate family member, official court appearance and other reasons under state law and district policy.
Submitting the new online form does not guarantee a student absence will be excused.
Parents and guardians may also continue to send parent and doctor’s notes via email to the campus attendance clerk or with their child to deliver to the appropriate campus staff member.
Sherman ISD is pleased to be able to offer families this convenient, user-friendly option for returning absence-related documents while continuing to stress the importance of consistent school attendance.
Students who aren’t present miss valuable time in the classroom, as every school day is an opportunity to learn, grow and succeed. School attendance is also compulsory under state law.
- Students must attend class 90% of the days a class is offered to receive credit or a final grade (regardless of excused absences).
- Students who fall below the 90% attendance requirement will be required to complete make-up hours to earn credit.
- Unexcused voluntary absences for 10 days or more within 6 months (whether in full days or parts of days) may lead to a court referral.
SISD encourages families to use school holidays and breaks whenever possible to help students avoid unnecessary absences. Together, we can make every school day count!
