SISD Announces New Head Football Coach

Sherman ISD is excited to announce Efrain Ramos as the new head football coach and boys coordinator at Sherman High School. A dynamic and results-driven leader, Ramos brings a proven track record of transforming programs, building winning cultures and developing student-athletes on and off the field.
He most recently served as head football coach and athletic director in Lamesa ISD, where he led the Golden Tornadoes to a district championship and their best regular season record in more than 20 years.
“Coach Ramos has a clear vision for where he wants to take this program and how to get there,” said Sherman ISD Athletic Director Alan McDougal. “We’re excited about the direction he brings and the foundation he’ll build for sustained success.”
Ramos previously worked as defensive coordinator and head track coach at Anna High School, where he played a key role in the football team’s 2023 4A Division I state championship and multiple record-breaking seasons.
Before that, he worked under current Anna coach Seth Parr at Lubbock Coronado from 2014-2020 and Amarillo Caprock from 2006-2014. During that time, he served as both offensive and defensive coordinators and coached boys track and soccer. At Lubbock Coronado, Ramos helped elevate the program to its first playoff appearance in nearly a decade, growing the team into a consistent contender with multiple district championships, a historic 13-win season and regional final playoff run. At Amarillo Caprock, the football team advanced to its first district championship and playoff appearance in 35 years.
Throughout his career, Ramos has been part of building successful programs through an emphasis on discipline, accountability and team pride.
“I have a mind for the future – wanting to win, building great relationships and instilling character,” Ramos said. “I expect players to be available, to work hard and to love being Bearcats. Trust and faith in the process is the most important thing.”
Ramos is a Plainview native and holds a bachelor’s degree from West Texas A&M University. He and his wife Melissa have three children: Renee, Zoey and Daniel.
Coach Ramos will begin meeting student-athletes and staff at Sherman High School on Tuesday, April 28 and looks forward to additional opportunities to connect with families and community members in the coming days. Further details will be announced as they become available.
