SISD Selects Site in South Sherman for New Elementary School

After extensive research and evaluation of nearly a dozen potential sites, Sherman ISD is moving forward with plans to purchase land in south Sherman for a future elementary school.
The 21.6-acre property along West Travis Street near Northgate Drive was selected based on its accessibility, existing infrastructure and proximity to Sherman High School and public safety facilities. It will also be the least disruptive to the district’s current elementary school attendance zones, which were last updated in 2025 with a future elementary school in mind.
The new campus was one of two new elementary schools included in the district’s 2023 bond package and will help SISD stay ahead of long-term growth projections. The other new elementary school was Parker Elementary, which opened in 2025 in northwest Sherman.
The new campus is being designed by WRA Architects and will be built by Pogue Construction. It is expected to open to students in fall 2028.
Completion of the new elementary will allow Dillingham Elementary to be closed and converted to a middle school campus. Once the renovations of Dillingham are complete, Piner Middle School students will temporarily move to Dillingham while the Piner campus receives additions and renovations.
