Ashley Woods to Serve as Principal of New Elementary Campus
Sherman ISD is excited to announce Ashley Woods, current principal at Wakefield Elementary, as principal of the new elementary school opening this fall in the Heritage Ranch development.
The 110-thousand-square-foot campus is currently under construction at the northwest corner of Heritage Ranch Trail and Plainview Road, north of Highway 82. The school’s name and attendance zones will be finalized soon by the Sherman ISD Board of Trustees.
Woods became principal of Wakefield Elementary in 2024, fostering an instructionally-focused, student-centered environment that prioritizes the growth and success of every child.
Wakefield will close following the 2024-25 school year in order to make way for a new early childhood center which will be built on the property.
At Sherman ISD’s newest campus, Woods looks forward to establishing a positive school culture and new traditions to meet students’ unique needs.
“I am thrilled to open our new elementary campus and work alongside students, staff and families to build a positive, thriving school community,” Woods said. “Together, we will create a welcoming environment where every child feels valued, supported and inspired to learn. I look forward to this exciting journey!”
Before joining the team at Wakefield, Woods spent four years as an instructional coach at Neblett Elementary. In that role, she led instructional design, professional development and support for both new and veteran teachers through planning and mentorship. She began her career in education in 2010 with nine years of experience as a classroom teacher in Keller ISD, where she taught grades 3-6.
Woods received a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies and master’s degree in educational leadership from Stephen F. Austin State University.
She is married to her high school sweetheart, Matt, and they have three children.
