Mentorship Program Equips New Teachers for Success in the Classroom
During the 2024-25 school year, Sherman ISD introduced a new mentorship program that pairs new teachers with experienced educators to provide on-the-job coaching and professional development. The initiative supports an area of growth identified in the district’s strategic plan and is especially important amid a national teacher shortage and as more people utilize non-traditional teacher preparation pathways.
As part of the program, the mentor and mentee teachers meet regularly for planning, conversation and classroom observations. They also completed a book study at the beginning of the school year on effective classroom management practices.
Sherman ISD is committed to developing, supporting and retaining new teachers, and this program is playing a critical role in building confidence and equipping them for success.
