Sherman ISD is proud to announce Alan McDougal, currently the Head Baseball Coach at Sherman High School, as the district’s new Athletic Director.

A Sherman High School graduate and former Bearcat standout, McDougal carries nearly three decades of coaching experience and a passion for building student-athletes on and off the field.

As Athletic Director, McDougal will oversee all Sherman ISD athletic programs, championing student growth and continuing to build a legacy of success districtwide.

McDougal returned to Sherman in 2023 to lead Bearcat Baseball after a highly successful 18-year tenure in Colleyville. In his first season back in Sherman, he coached the Bearcats to a playoff berth, and led several student athletes to earn All-District, All-State and Academic All-State honors over the past two years.

McDougal currently serves as the President of the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association. He is widely respected for his ability to lead with character and build programs that reflect a commitment to hard work, accountability and student achievement.

“I’m honored and humbled to take on this role,” McDougal said. “Sherman is home, and I care deeply about the student-athletes and coaches who represent this community. I look forward to supporting all of our programs and continuing to raise the standard for Bearcat Athletics by giving back to the community that has given so much to me.”

McDougal is a 1992 Sherman High School graduate, former team captain and two-time All-District baseball player. He went on to play at Baylor University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in 1996. He later received his master’s in education from University of Texas in Arlington in 2013.

His father, Dr. Michael McDougal, served in several positions in Sherman ISD, including Superintendent of Schools from 1988 to 1993. His mother, Linda Kay McDougal, was a teacher at Crutchfield Elementary. His brother, Cary McDougal, served on the Sherman ISD Board of Trustees from 1998 to 2003. Alan McDougal is the proud father of two sons: Jaxon and Maxwell.
