SHS Junior Classical League Shines at National Convention

Sherman High School was well-represented at the National Junior Classical League Convention July 21-26, as five students competed against nearly 1,000 other students from across the nation!

Below are the results:

• Mckenzie Amaral: 17th in Reading Comprehension level IV, 19th in Reading Comprehension Poetry level IV, and 17th in Reading Comprehension level IV, and 23rd in Roman Life
• Brennan Burton: 1st in Vocal Solo, and 26th in Greek Life & Literature
• Amelia Franklin: 23rd in Greek Derivatives
• Ayden Onwu: 15th in Greek History, 22nd in Roman History, and 28th in Latin Derivatives
• Isabella Taylor: 16th in Roman Life, and 29th in Greek Derivatives

Burton also participated in the NJCL Chorus, which sang in front of the General Assembly in the closing day of the convention, and Amaral, who graduated from SHS this spring, joined the Senior Classical League, the sibling organization to JCL for college students.

Amaral's knowledge will come in handy as Sherman High School looks forward to hosting the State JCL Convention in April 2027!
