Get Your Back-to-School Immunizations Early!
Sherman ISD encourages families to take care of their students' immunizations before the busy back-to-school rush!
State law requires all students in Texas schools to be immunized against certain vaccine-preventable diseases to protect the health of both the children and the community.
Schedule an appointment now with your doctor, clinic or other health care provider to ensure sufficient time for vaccinations before the start of the 2025-26 school year on August 13.
The Grayson County Health Department also offers low-cost vaccines at their clinic at 515 Walnut Street in Sherman. The hours are Monday-Friday, 8-11 a.m. and 1-4 p.m. Please make an appointment at 903-893-0131 ext. 1235 or ext. 1237. Limited walk-ins are available. An English shot record must be provided, and the only insurance accepted is Texas Medicaid.
To determine the specific vaccines required for your child’s grade level, please review the immunizations information on our district website. Students entering kindergarten or the 7th grade may need new immunizations. Specifically for 7th grade, state law requires one dose of the meningococcal conjugate (MCV4) vaccine on or after the student’s 11th birthday. One dose of Tdap is also required in 7th grade if at least five years have passed since the last dose of tetanus-containing vaccine.
Without proper documentation of the required vaccinations or a valid medical or conscientious exemption, students are not allowed to attend school. If you have any questions about vaccines, please consult your health care provider, school nurse or local health department.
