Choir, Band Perform at Concert and Sight-Reading Contest
The Sherman High School bands and choirs demonstrated their musical prowess by earning Superior ratings at their recent UIL Concert & Sight-Reading contests.
For the choir program, the A Cappella Choir, Bel Canto Choir and Concert Choir received Superior ratings on stage, which is the top rating, and Excellent ratings in sight-reading. Congrats to these vocalists!
All of the bands earned Superior ratings for their stage performances, and the Concert Band earned an Excellent rating for sight-reading while the Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble received Superior ratings. The band program was also received the Sweepstakes award, which is given to programs who earn 1st divisions in marching, concert, and sight-reading competitions and is the highest honor in the state.
"Each group was lauded by the judging panel for their strong tone quality and technical preparation," said band director Ryan Jenkins. "It says so much about our students and the high standard to which they hold themselves. I couldn't be more proud of the sustaining tradition of excellence we've come to expect."
