Colby Ray Short made school history as he became the first state powerlifting champion from Sherman High School after lifting a total of 1,600 pounds at the THSPA state powerlifting meet in Abilene March 22.

Short competed in the 165-pound weight class. His lifts were:

  • Squat: 620 pounds
  • Bench press: 425 pounds
  • Deadlift: 555 pounds

Short had been the Regional Champion for his weight class as well, having lifted a total of 1,560 pounds. Congratulations on an outstanding performance!

SHS Boys Powerlifting sent seven lifters to the state meet.

Their state totals and class were:

  • Colby Ray Short (165) - 1,600 pounds
  • Abram Ramirez (220) - 1,590 pounds
  • Dylan Childs (132) - 1,110 pounds
  • Isaac Patino (198) - 1,500 pounds
  • Braydon Berry (275) - 1,570 pounds
  • Jose Monroy (181) - 1,355 pounds
  • Alex Pena (165) - 1,405 pounds
