UIL Announces New Athletic Districts for Sherman High School

The University Interscholastic League has released its athletic realignment for the 2026-27 and 2027-28 school years, and some big changes are in store for Bearcat football.

With Melissa moving into 5A Division I, Sherman High School has been paired with schools to the west rather than those to the south for football.  

For basketball and volleyball, SHS will compete against several familiar foes, including Denison, Anna, Greenville, Lucas Lovejoy, McKinney North and Melissa.

SHS looks forward to the competition against both new and returning rivals!

Alignments for other sports will be released later in the spring.

In December, the UIL released conference cutoffs based on enrollment in October. Sherman High School will continue to compete in the 5A classification for at least the next two school years and in 5A Division I school for football. The UIL does not split classes for any other sport besides football.
