Band

Sherman High School band flutists lean to the right while playing.

Starting in sixth grade, Sherman ISD students can join band and are enrolled in classes based on their instrument selection at the end of fifth grade or beginning of sixth grade. Middle school students learn the basics of posture, hand position, proper breathing and individual performance skills, and they have the opportunity to participate in TMEA All-Region Auditions, Solo & Ensemble and the UIL Concert & Sight-Reading Evaluation. The middle school band performs in several events throughout the year, including pep rallies, football games, concerts and local festivals.

High school students can join the marching band, which performs at all football games, invitational marching competitions, and the UIL marching contest. Bands also participate in TMEA auditions, solo & ensemble contests and UIL concert & sight reading competitions, and portions of the band may also be requested to perform at community events.
