Pre-K, Early Head Start, and Head Start Information
Students who will turn three or four years of age by September 1 of the current year can pre-register and complete the pre-application process for Pre-K, Early Head Start, and Head Start. The entire pre-application process is online and will require WIFI access and a technology device (computer, laptop, tablet) to complete.
Important Dates and Information for Pre-K, Early Head Start, and Head Start
In order to finalize the Pre-K application process, parents are required to provide additional documentation Wednesday, April 6, 2022 (3:30 pm - 7:30 pm), or Thursday, April 7. 2022 (8:00 am to 1:00 pm) at the SISD Service Center, 2701 N. Loy Lake Road. During this time, you will submit your application requirements, and if needed, the student language test may be administered.
We ask that one parent/guardian come in person to complete their child's application and only bring your child if they are an English second language student and will need to take the language test. The setup will accommodate room for one person to sit at a table to utilize a computer. For additional information, please see the enrollment eligibility requirements listed below.
Early Childhood Eligibility Requirements
Pre-K Eligibility Requirements
Students who will turn four years of age by September 1 of the current year can pre-register for Pre-K during Open Enrollment. They must also qualify to attend Pre-K programs that are offered for free and meet the eligibility criteria listed below.
A Pre-K child must qualify in one of the following ways:
- Proof of income (Four most recent paycheck stubs — February 2021 and March 2022 only — or 1040 tax return transcript showing gross income with preparer's signature)
- W-2
- Four paycheck stubs for each job and for each person employed. We will not accept check stubs for the month of April 2022.
- Language
- Homeless
- Active Military
- Star of Texas Award
Qualifications for Pre-K include:
- Child must be 4 on or before September 1, 2022
- Child must live in Sherman ISD
- Language other than English (Child will be tested on April 6 or 7 and a later date to see if they qualify by language)
- Homeless
- Income eligible
- SNAP/TANF will need the EDG #
- Medicaid card (please bring with you)
- Active Military – verification of Military ID
- Foster care – verification letter from DFPS or other official documentation showing child is or was in DFPS care
- Star of Texas Award – child of a person awarded the Star of Texas Award (peace officer, firefighter or emergency medical first responder)
*A child must qualify to be in the Head Start or Pre-K Program. Completion of the application does not qualify a student for the program. Parents will need to provide proof of income to finish the application process. Proof of income includes the 2021 1040 Tax Form for everyone in the household, four most recent paycheck stubs (from December to March), or the other items listed below for each program.

Early Head Start Eligibility Requirements
Early Head Start is a comprehensive educational program for pregnant women, teen parents, and families with infants and toddlers. Early Head Start will provide quality education for center-based and home-based children and families.
Qualifications for Early Head Start include:
- You may be pregnant
- Your child must be an infant (birth) or a toddler up to the age of 34 months old
- You must live within the boundaries of Sherman ISD
- You must be income-eligible and provide proof of income
*A child must qualify to be in the Early Head Start Program. Completion of the application does not qualify a student for the program.

Head Start Eligibility Requirements
The Sherman ISD Head Start and Early Head Start programs offer quality early childhood education at no cost to families who meet the income eligibility guidelines. To qualify for Head Start, children must be 3-4 years old by September 1, 2022.
To begin the online application process to qualify for this program, you will need the following information:
- Proof of income: (Four most recent paycheck stubs (December 2021 - March 2022 only) or 1040 tax return transcript showing gross income with preparer's signature
- W-2
- Four consecutive paycheck stubs for each job and for each person employed. We will not accept check stubs for the month of April 2022.
- Self-Employment: previous 12 months income
- SSI
- Pell grants
- Child support and if you received TANF
Qualifications for Head Start include:
- Child must be 3 or 4 on or before September 1, 2022
- Child must live in Sherman ISD
- Homeless
- Income eligible
- Foster care – verification letter from DFPS or other official documentation showing the child is or was in DFPS care
- Child receiving disability services
*A child must qualify to be in the Head Start or PreK Program. Completion of the application does not qualify a student for the program. Parents will need to provide proof of income to finish the application process. Proof of income includes 2021 1040 Tax Form for everyone in the household, four most recent paycheck stubs (from December to March), or the other items listed below for each program.
