    Pre-K, Early Head Start, and Head Start Important Information

    Pre-K, Early Head Start, and Head Start offer quality early childhood education at no cost to families who meet the eligibility guidelines.

    A child must qualify to be in the Pre-K, Early Head Start, or Head Start Program. Completion of the application does not qualify a student for the program. 

    The entire Pre-K, Early Head Start, and Head Start pre-application process is online.

    Parents will need to provide proof of income to finish the application process. Proof of income includes the 2022 1040 Tax Form or four most recent paycheck stubs (from December to March) for everyone in the household. Please see eligibility requirements and required application documents listed by the program below.

    Pre-K Eligibility Requirements

    Pre-K is a one-year, full-day program. Transportation is provided if the student lives more than two miles from campus.

    To qualify, the child must live in Sherman ISD, be four-years-old on or before September 1, 2023 and meet one or more of the following:

    • Family is income eligible

    • Family is homeless

    • Child is in foster care

    • Child is a dependent of active-duty military

    • Child speaks no or limited English (Child will be tested on April 5 or 6 and a later date to see if they qualify by language)

    • Parent/Guardian is Star of Texas Award recipient

    To apply, you will need the following documentation:

    • Parent Photo ID

    • Proof of income for everyone in the household (Four most recent paycheck stubs — February 2022 and March 2023 only — or 2022 1040 tax return transcript showing gross income with preparer's signature)

    • Proof of address (Lease agreement or gas, water or electric bill)

    • W-2

    • SNAP/TANF will need the EDG #

    • Medicaid card

    • Child shot records

    • Verification of Military ID

    • DFPS verification letter or other DFPS official documentation

    • Star of Texas Award documentation

    Early Head Start Eligibility Requirements 

    Early Head Start is a comprehensive, federal educational program for pregnant women, teen parents, and families with infants and toddlers. Early Head Start will provide quality education for center-based and home-based children and families.

    Qualifications for Early Head Start include:

    • You may be pregnant

    • Your child must be an infant (birth) or a toddler up to the age of 34 months old

    • You must live within the boundaries of Sherman ISD

    • You must be income-eligible and provide proof of income.

    • Family is homeless

    • Child is receiving disability services

    • Child speaks no or limited English (Child will be tested on April 5 or 6 and a later date to see if they qualify by language)

    To apply, you will need the following documentation: 

    • Parent Photo ID

    • Proof of income for everyone in the household (Four most recent paycheck stubs — February 2022 and March 2023 only — or 2022 1040 tax return transcript showing gross income with preparer's signature)

    • Proof of address (Lease agreement or gas, water or electric bill)

    • W-2

    • Self-Employment (previous 12 months income)

    • SSI

    • Pell grants

    • Child shot records

    • Child support and if you received TANF

    • DFPS verification letter or other DFPS official documentation
